First up no it’s not a pirate ship and no it wasn’t used in Pirates of the Caribbean but it is a recreation of a 16th Century Spanish Galleon and you can visit it.

(We just happened to bring along our own little pirate)

Unfortunately it’s quite a pricey visit at €8 for an adult and 4 for children aged 5 – 10. Free for little ones.

You can get a Family ticket for €20 which lets in 2 adults and 3 kids so not bad value if you go with more than one kid as we took along a friend’s kid as well.

We visited yesterday and managed to skip the queues as we’d booked online. The queues were long though moving at a steady enough pace (remember people have to get off before more can get on)

The Crowds To Visit The Ship

You can also pick up some audio guides I believe though we didn’t.

El Galeon Andalucia in Nantes

El Galeon Andalucia taken from the Île de Nantes

The Ship Wheel

Unfortunately access to the wheel wasn’t allowed (as it’d have made for some brilliant photos) nor to the poop deck!

Navigation Equipment

Navigation instruments on display … though they do lack some descriptions.

The History Of Galleons

The Hold

There are descriptions available in English / French / Spanish

Fire the Cannons

Victor had a lot of fun …. FIRE!!!

You might even be lucky enough to find the treasure (or to make a pirate wish)

Pirate Treasure

All in all we had a lot of fun. The visit will take around an hour though that’ll depend on you.

Just try not to get trapped on board!
